Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 ½ cups warm water (105 to 110 degrees F°)
- 1 Tablespoon instant yeast
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
Topping & Seasoning
- 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup powdered Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 2 Tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
Instructions
- Mix the Dough: In an electric stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine warm water, instant yeast, granulated sugar, salt, and 1 cup of flour. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
- Knead the Dough: Gradually add the remaining flour, kneading the dough until it clears the sides of the bowl and forms a soft, slightly sticky dough that doesn’t leave much residue on your fingers. Knead for about 3 minutes to develop gluten.
- Rest the Dough: Let the dough rest in the bowl for 10 minutes to allow the gluten to relax. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400°F and melt the salted butter, spreading it evenly on a large rimmed baking sheet approximately 11×17 inches.
- Shape the Breadsticks: Lightly grease a countertop and pat the dough into a long rectangle roughly 16×7 inches. Use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into 12 equal strips. Twist each strip gently and place them side-by-side on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1/2 inch between each.
- Prepare the Seasoning: In a small bowl, mix together powdered Parmesan cheese, Kosher salt, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil, and dried parsley to create the garlic Parmesan seasoning blend.
- Season and Rise: Sprinkle the seasoning mixture generously over the tops of the twisted breadsticks. Cover the baking sheet with a kitchen towel and let the breadsticks rise for 20 minutes so they puff up slightly.
- Bake the Breadsticks: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the breadsticks turn golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven carefully and allow the breadsticks to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm garlic Parmesan breadsticks fresh out of the oven!
Notes
- Ensure water temperature is between 105 to 110°F to activate yeast effectively without killing it.
- Do not add too much flour; the dough should remain slightly sticky for softness.
- Use fresh dried herbs and quality Parmesan for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best results.
- These breadsticks can be served as a side with pasta, soup, or salad, or enjoyed as a snack on their own.
