Description

A delicious and quick Teriyaki Turkey Stir Fry featuring ground turkey, fresh vegetables, and a homemade teriyaki sauce with a hint of orange zest. Ready in just 30 minutes, this healthy stir fry is perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water (for cornstarch mixture)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Stir Fry

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen
  • 1 small onion, small diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 3/4 cup water, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a low boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Thicken Sauce: In a separate small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup water and cornstarch until smooth. Slowly pour this mixture into the boiling saucepan, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat, stir in orange zest, then set aside.
  3. Cook Vegetables and Turkey: Heat sesame oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Cook Turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet with the onions and cook thoroughly, breaking it up with a spatula, until there is no pink remaining, about 6-8 minutes.
  5. Add Vegetables: Stir in broccoli florets and shredded carrots. Cook for another 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  6. Combine with Sauce: Reduce heat to low and pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the turkey and vegetables. Stir well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and sauce to fully coat the ingredients.
  7. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the stir fry hot over steamed rice or your favorite grain. Enjoy your flavorful teriyaki turkey stir fry!

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic and ginger for best flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar and honey according to taste.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds or chopped green onions on top before serving.
  • You can substitute ground chicken or beef if preferred.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce sodium content.
  • Serve with steamed rice, quinoa, or noodles to complete the meal.
