Perfect as party appetizers or game day snacks, they combine smoky sausage flavor with the tropical sweetness of pineapple and the rich depth of brown sugar and soy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
Sausages
- 2 packages (14 oz each) of Lil’ Smokies sausages
Glaze
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a kick)
Additional
- 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned)
Instructions
- Prepare the glaze: In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, pineapple juice, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Whisk the mixture until the sugar is fully dissolved and everything is well combined.
- Combine sausages and glaze: Place the Lil’ Smokies sausages in a slow cooker, then pour the prepared pineapple glaze over them. Gently stir to coat all the sausages evenly with the glaze.
- Add pineapple chunks: Stir in the pineapple chunks with the sausages and glaze inside the slow cooker to distribute the fruit evenly.
- Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 4 hours, or on high heat for 2 hours. Stir occasionally during cooking until the sausages are heated through and the sauce is bubbly and thickened.
- Serve: Serve the bites warm, ideally with toothpicks for easy snacking at parties or gatherings.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the cayenne pepper slightly or add a dash of hot sauce.
- Use fresh pineapple chunks for added texture, but canned pineapple works well too.
- Ensure to stir occasionally during cooking to prevent sticking and to coat the sausages evenly.
- These bites can be kept warm in the slow cooker on the ‘keep warm’ setting before serving.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated before serving again.
