Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer that brings the flavors of the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich in a delicious, shareable form. Made with tender roast beef, sautéed onions and green peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, this dip is baked until hot and bubbly, perfect for parties or game day snacks.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat, sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, chopped into ¼ inch pieces (or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • Green onion, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Lightly grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally.
  3. Mix Cheeses and Cream: While the vegetables cook, in a medium-sized bowl combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir this mixture until it is evenly combined and smooth.
  4. Combine All Ingredients: To the bowl with the cheese mixture, add the chopped roast beef, sautéed onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together thoroughly. You can reserve 1 tablespoon of the roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish if desired.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Spread the dip mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. Optionally, sprinkle the reserved beef and vegetables on top for garnish.
  6. Bake the Dip: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve hot immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.

Notes

  • Use good quality roast beef deli meat for the best flavor and texture.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • You can substitute the provolone cheese with Swiss or additional mozzarella if preferred.
  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
  • Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
