Description

These Mini Pumpkin Pecan Hand Pies are delightful bite-sized treats perfect for fall or any time you crave a sweet, cozy dessert. With a flaky pie crust surrounding a spiced pumpkin filling studded with crunchy pecans, and a sweet maple glaze finish, these hand pies are both charming and delicious. They bake quickly and make a perfect snack or dessert for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust

Filling

  • 1 cup pumpkin purée
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg mixed with a splash of milk

Glaze

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 200°C (about 400°F) to prepare for baking the pies.
  2. Prepare the Dough Circles: Roll out the refrigerated pie crust if needed, then cut into circles roughly 8 cm in diameter. These will be the base for each hand pie.
  3. Fill the Pies: In a bowl, mix together the pumpkin purée, brown sugar, pumpkin spice, and chopped pecans. Place a spoonful of this mixture onto the center of each dough circle.
  4. Seal and Brush: Fold the dough circles over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Crimp or pinch the edges firmly to seal in the filling. Then, brush each hand pie with the egg wash mixture to help them bake to a golden-brown finish.
  5. Bake: Place the hand pies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crisp.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: While the pies cool, combine the powdered sugar and maple syrup in a small bowl to make a smooth glaze.
  7. Glaze the Hand Pies: Once the pies are cooled to room temperature, drizzle the maple glaze over the top to add sweetness and a lovely finish.

Notes

  • Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
  • Use fresh pumpkin purée or canned pumpkin purée suitable for baking.
  • You can substitute maple syrup in the glaze with honey or agave syrup if preferred.
  • These hand pies can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat before serving for best taste.
  • Consider adding a pinch of salt to the filling to enhance the flavor complexity.
