Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¾ cup sugar cookie mix
- 1 package gold sprinkles (or any color)
Wet Ingredients
- 16 ounces Wilton’s Green Icing
Other
- 2 gallon-size zip-top baggies
Instructions
- Prepare the Cereal: Measure out 6 cups of Rice Chex cereal and place it into a large mixing bowl to get ready for coating.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Combine the powdered sugar and sugar cookie mix in one of the gallon-size zip-top bags and set it aside for later use.
- Melt the Frosting: Pour the 16 ounces of Wilton’s Green Icing into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until the frosting is completely melted and smooth.
- Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted green frosting over the Rice Chex cereal. Gently fold the cereal pieces with a spatula or spoon to ensure every piece is evenly coated. Stir in the gold sprinkles for a festive touch.
- Shake with Sugar Mixture: Transfer the coated cereal into the prepared zip-top bag containing the powdered sugar and sugar cookie mix. Seal the bag and shake vigorously until all cereal pieces are fully covered with the sugar mixture.
- Dry the Mixture: Spread the coated and sugar-covered cereal on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow it to dry completely so the coating sets and becomes less sticky.
- Finish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle additional gold sprinkles on top for extra decoration before serving your festive Saint Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow.
Notes
- Use a gentle folding technique when coating the cereal to avoid breaking the pieces.
- If the frosting starts to harden during coating, reheat it briefly to maintain smoothness.
- This treat is best stored in an airtight container to keep it crisp.
- Feel free to swap gold sprinkles for different colors to customize for other holidays or events.
- Make sure the cereal is completely dry after coating to prevent clumping.
