Description

This Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole is a creamy, cheesy, and comforting baked dish featuring shredded chicken, ham, and Swiss cheese combined with a savory cream sauce and topped with a buttery crushed cracker crust. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing meal perfect for family dinners, bringing the classic chicken cordon bleu flavors into a simple and hearty casserole form.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded or cubed
  • 6 ounces deli ham, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (or a Swiss/cheddar mix)

Sauce

  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups crushed Ritz crackers (or seasoned breadcrumbs)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Garnish

  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the sauce mixture. In a large bowl, combine the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  3. Add meats and cheese. Stir in the cooked chicken, chopped ham, and 1 1/2 cups of shredded Swiss cheese into the sauce mixture until everything is well coated.
  4. Assemble casserole. Spread the chicken and ham mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded Swiss cheese over the top for added cheesiness.
  5. Prepare cracker topping. In a small bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter, stirring until the crumbs are well coated.
  6. Add topping and bake. Evenly sprinkle the buttery cracker mixture over the casserole. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until the casserole is hot, bubbly, and the topping is a golden brown.
  7. Rest and garnish. Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow it to set. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired for a fresh finish.

Notes

  • You can use rotisserie chicken to save time when prepping the cooked chicken.
  • Swap Swiss cheese for mozzarella or provolone if you prefer a milder cheese flavor.
  • For a lower-carb version, skip the cracker topping or substitute it with crushed pork rinds.
