Description

Classic 7 Layer Bars, also known as Magic Bars, feature a rich, buttery graham cracker crust topped with layers of sweetened condensed milk, butterscotch chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped pecans. This easy-to-make dessert is baked until golden and cut into deliciously chewy, sweet squares perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted

Layers

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1â…“ cup flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Line the pan with parchment paper, allowing the paper to hang over the edges to easily lift the bars out for clean squares.
  2. Make the crust: Combine the graham cracker crumbs with melted butter in a bowl until well blended. Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a solid crust.
  3. Add sweetened condensed milk: Evenly drizzle the entire can of sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crust, ensuring it covers the surface.
  4. Layer remaining ingredients: Sprinkle the butterscotch chips evenly over the condensed milk, followed by the semi-sweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and then the chopped pecans. Press down gently with a fork to help the layers adhere together.
  5. Bake the bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and bubbly.
  6. Cool and cut: Remove the pan from the oven and while still warm, loosen the edges from the pan using the parchment overhang. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut into 24 squares and serve.

Notes

  • Using parchment paper with overhanging edges makes removing bars easier and cleaner.
  • Pressing down the layers gently helps to bind the bars together for easier cutting.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • For added flavor variation, substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds.
